IRIS, by ONCO HEALTH – Design Research & Product Design

The Challenge:
Create the Beta app for a new consumer-facing service for Oncology support service.

The Result:

We successfully designed a full-featured app, connected website, and roadmap for them to build on for the first few years as they grow. The app features appointment scheduling, live chat, video calls, a knowledge library, and Peer Mentor Matching flows.

The Process:

Our client had an existing business in chemotherapy approvals and felt there was a need in the market for an augmented Oncology Care solution accessible via an app and paid for by an employee’s insurance company. We met with over 20 people to learn about their journeys with cancer and find areas for improvement. Along with the core offering of on-call Oncology Nurses and Therapists, we learned there was a great opportunity to offer support in the way of lived experience.

We heard from nearly everyone that they would go to YouTube to learn more about how their treatments would feel. The human experience was missing. Through our Qualitative and Quantitative research, we persuaded our client of the value of hiring peer mentors on staff. These are cancer survivors or caretakers who can speak more to the questions like, “What does this treatment feel like?”, “How do I talk to my kids about this?” Or “What should I tell my boss?” These are things that doctors and psychologists can’t necessarily answer if they haven’t felt it themselves.
