Caden – Monetize Your Personal Data
The Challenge:
Find the product-market fit and design a product aimed to capture attention and make Caden a household name in the realm of monetizing your personal data online.
The Process:
Our journey started by getting to know Caden's core stakeholders. Learning their unique perspectives and relationships with the company helped us understand the whole picture, including the founder’s grand vision, the investor’s reasons for belief, and the development team’s realistic capabilities.
User Research
We surveyed the competitive landscape and developed multiple angles that this product could take. We mocked up 3 different app concepts to help guide discussions with potential users. One focused on creating an NFT based on the services and content you prefer, the next on comparing your behaviors against others, and the third focused solely on the income you could generate from your service connections. Talking to a diverse panel within the target audience helped solidify our understanding of what resonated in the market.

Learnings from our user research that lead to the generation of multiple possible directions to pressure test with the client and future design research.
We held a day long workshop with Caden to discuss findings from research. We thought through nearly 20 possible ways Caden could utilized their technology to service different core audiences. This pressure tested the original hypotheses and focused our vision of the approach we would take to design the initial product.
From a customer perspective, getting paid for your personal data was the clear winner, but the concept of using that data to generate insights into your own and others’ habits was also very strong. As a group, we decided to focus on how to visualize insights from personal data so they could be intriguing and sharable in their own right.

Early explorations that led us to our final visual style and hierarchy of information.
The insight statistics generated should be eye-catching, sharable moments. These are infographics about your habits that you might enjoy sending to a friend or your feed. There will also be monetary and in-app benefits for referring new members.
Final screens for the first versions of the app. We developed a strategy and designs to fill Caden’s road map of development for the first few iterations of the product.

The initial home screen dashboard will show the amount the user has earned for their connections within Caden and incentives for connecting more. The more data users collect in their digital wallets, the more data populates Caden’s data warehouse. This builds Caden’s anonymized warehouse of verified user data. Creating a valuable asset for advertisers looking to improve their products and services.

The Result:
We created a set of screens and a strategy for Caden to build on for years. They launched to a buzzing waitlist and are building on their success. We completed this program, including research, on time and on budget within 12 weeks.
